Dear Visitor,

Welcome to the Mutschler Estate, to this special place of remembrance — the Luther Rose.
This place is not only an attraction, but also tells a personal story and carries a profound message of faith.
The owners of the estate are Christians and belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary. For them, the Luther Rose is one of the most important symbols of their faith.
This memorial was created in honor of László Danhauser, a Lutheran pastor and the grandfather of the founder, Zoltán Mátrai.

Shared symbols play an important role in the life of every community. They connect people across time and space. The best-known symbol of Lutheran Christians is the Luther Rose.

Originally, it was the personal emblem of Martin Luther, which he used to authenticate his letters and writings. When we look more closely, we can see that this symbol is not accidental — each element carries meaning.

  • At the center we see a black cross in a red heart. This expresses that faith lives in the heart, and that faith in the crucified Christ brings salvation.

  • The heart is surrounded by a white rose, symbolizing the peace, joy, and comfort that grow from faith. This is not the peace of the world, but an inner, spiritual calm.

  • The rose appears against a blue background, representing heaven and the hope of eternal life.

  • The whole is enclosed by a golden ring, symbolizing eternity and the fullness of salvation.

  • Martin Luther himself described this symbol in a letter when discussing the creation of a signet ring. For him, this motif summarized his entire theology in a single image.

Perhaps its meaning can be summed up in one sentence:

„Christ’s followers walk among roses when their hearts bear the cross.”

The Luther Rose is still a widely recognized symbol around the world today. It can be seen on churches and publications, and many people wear it as a sign of their personal faith.

We invite you to pause for a moment and look at this symbol as a message — one that spans centuries and reaches all the way to our present day.
